Community Art Making

Having initiated, orchestrated and implemented multiple community art projects in the past, I want to bring this concept to the table for organizations to consider in the age of social distancing and people feeling disconnected from their community resources. In an effort to bring people together, by developing a plan for a community project that can be worked on with social distancing guidelines. These visual representations of how individuals are part of a whole and play an important part in the big picture can be a strong and powerful statement right now.  

I have worked in various settings where we have developed an art plan that represents the mission of the organization and the values of the people with it. Then each person contributes in a way that they feel comfortable and represents them. For example, I have aided in painting building wide murals in new facilities or facilities that were trying to strengthen their core values within their clientele. We have also developed an art piece (painting sculpture, etc.) where there is a central theme and each person individually adds a piece or participates in the creative process in a solo. Then these pieces are brought together to make a whole, much like a puzzle. 

As a consultant with a background in art education, art therapy, specializing in trauma and developing group projects, I am a leader in the field. I have a strong work ethic, a creative problem solving mind and a passion to help others. I have collaborated with other therapists after 9/11 and in the present pandemic to try to find ways that the arts can bring resilience to our communities and assist people in building their processing of their present situation. I have worked to push out new ideas working with various organizations and tying together groups to make projects happen.
